Tent City

Volunteers passing food out from the back of a church van.
In 2002, Lampstand Ministries was birthed out of a vision to provide more then just clothing, food, and shelter to the homeless and impoverished of St. Louis.
Jamie Lankford and several other members of Crossroads Christian Church were exposed to the homeless dilemma by other ministries that were trying to meet these needs. They, along with other area Churches began driving vans filled with food, clothing and volunteers each Thursday night to the streets of downtown St. Louis.
Their Efforts were joined by St. Louis Christian College who provided transportation and student volunteers. Derrick Simmons, who is now the ministries Director, has been planning and preparing meals, finding and receiving clothing donations and getting the word out about their needs.
Our Ministries Goals for the future include establishing a transitional home to get men and women off the streets and on their way to becoming productive citizens of the kingdom of God.
We are also now part of The Urban Mission, who through partnerships In order to fulfill this vision, urban ministries have begun to unite with The Urban Mission in an effort to increase the effectiveness of all our ministries.
